The march follows yesterday's state budget that confirmed the cutting of 14,000 jobs across the public sector.

Those participating in the protest say they fear more jobs will go as the Government moves to outsource services.

The crowd covered a broad cross-section of the community - firefighters, nurses, ambulance officers, teachers, cleaners, plumbers and members of the gay and lesbian community.

Vuna aaaa,

Fears of a housing crisis in Sydney and the Hunter Valley have been confirmed by the state's most senior planning official.

The massive shortage of homes in the Hunter Valley has been described as a crisis, with the mining boom pushing up demand and causing rents to sky rocket.

The Director General of the New South Wales Department of Planning, Sam Haddad, has used a forum in Newcastle today to acknowledge the crisis.

„We've been zoning a lot of land but housing supply is very low, probably at record lows,” he said.

He says it is a problem in Sydney and the Hunter Valley.

As a result he says the Lower Hunter Strategy adopted five years ago to guide development has been reviewed and a discussion paper will be released soon.

Gospodine Aleksa,mnogo ste negativni.

Ako dobro pratish parametre na trzistu/// BHP Billiton has taken the axe to more than $US30 billion in spending on Australian expansion projects, in the clearest sign yet that the nation is past the peak of its resources boom.

BHP’s decision to change its strategy on its Olympic Dam expansion came as the company announced a 35 per cent slide in net profit

„It doesn't really make a lot of sense in this market for them to be engaging in a major capital spending program and to be bringing more supply onto the market in a time when prices are softening,” said Gavin Wendt, publisher of resources newsletter Mine Life.

China has increasingly become an important economic player in Africa. Chinese investments in Africa span across many sectors and are not confined to Chinese government and large state-owned companies. Several private Chinese companies have also invested heavily in Africa. For example, Huawei, a Chinese leading global telecom services provider, has invested a total of USD1.5 billion and employs 4000 workers in Africa.

Fortescue Metals Group's The nation's third-biggest iron ore exporter plans to update the market on the talks by tomorrow after a record slump in its shares late last week. The Perth-based company halted its shares from trading last week as its market value plunged to $9.3 billion.

The slide means Forrest has probably lost his place as Australia's richest man as about $3 billion was wiped off the value of his stake in Fortescue since its peak this year on March 22 as the company raised borrowings to $10.6 billion to fund expansions. Anaconda Nickel, an earlier venture of Forrest was forced to sell shares to meet debt payments in 2003 after its mine was delayed and costs blew out.

Gospodine Aleksa, imam dugogodisnje zivotno i poslovno iskustvo u ovoj državi.

>>>China's growth has slowed to its lowest rate since the depths of the global financial crisis in 2009, though analysts voiced optimism on Friday that the economy may have bottomed out already.

Second-quarter growth of 7.6% – down from 8.1% in the previous three months – was in line with expectations, but dampened hopes that the world's second largest economy would help to offset wider woes.

„The growth rate of 7.6% is already an achievement because the economic situation facing China has been complex and severe,” said Sheng Laiyun of the National Bureau of Statistics.

>>>Chinese oil companies are moving into Canada ... amid a predictably polarized debate. An interesting and balanced view from the Vancouver Observer's Massoud Hayoun.

Articles like this emphasize that the Chinese only seem to want to import raw materials from Africa. That's what Japan wanted to import from China in the 1970s: oil and coal. It was the Chinese that then decided to transform their country from a raw material exporter into a producer of IPads and Nikes.
