Dear Councillor _____________________,

On behalf of all members of my family, I am writing to you regarding the biggest natural disaster in modern times that has hit Serbia in the past week. Hundreds of thousands of people are affected, thirty five thousand were immediately evacuated and numbers of dead are still being counted (this could be determined only when water recedes). Because of the huge humanitarian and economic damage, big assistance will be needed in weeks, months and likely, years to come.

Canada has the best track record with helping those in need, and this time it shouldn’t be any different.

We are learning that PM Harper is being briefed about this, today, and we - Canadians originating from that region (whose parents and other members of the family are being evacuated from their homes as we speak) - wish to strongly support this, and to recommend that Canada decides on assistance, as soon as possible.

We are looking to you to support this appeal, and lobby the federal government in articulating its response and assistance, in these times of dire need.
